America is a country rock band American , which originally consisted of Dan Peek, Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell.

The band was founded in Englandin 1970 , where members, sons of American army officers, when lived. The self-titled debut album from 1972 was an instant success in the United States. The singles " I need you, " A Horse with No Name " and Sandman were internationally big hits. Hereinafter referred to as the members moved back to the United States, where the second album, Homecoming was recorded, containing the hit Ventura Highway. Peek left the band In 1977 and went to Beckley and Bunnell continued as a duo. They had two more hits with You can do magic and The border in 1982 and played on the soundtrack of the animated film The Last Unicorn. In 2012 they got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
