Andrew Gold (Burbank (California), August 2, 1951 – June 3, 2011) was an American singer. He was active as a studio musician and had several international hits in the 1970s. Together with Graham Gouldman of 10cc was Gold in the 80 's the band Wax.
Gold in his youth learned piano, drums and guitar playing. He was active from the 1970s as a studio musician, songwriter and music producer. From 1969 to 1971 he made part of the Californian band Bryndle, which in 1970 the single Woke up this morning appeared. Then he formed The Rangers, an initiative that like Bryndle little success. From 1973 to 1977 worked Gold lot together with singer Linda Ronstadt. Gold was part of her band and played various instruments on the albums of Ronstadt appeared during this period.
From 1975 he worked on a solo career. He released several albums and scored international hits with the singles " Lonely boy and Never Let Her Slip Away. The single Thank You For Being a Friend from 1978 became later in the implementation of singer Cynthia Fee the title song for the BBC sitcom The Golden Girls. To the album All This And Heaven Too (1978) became among other things contributed by the musiciansJeff Porcaro and Leland Sklar and backup singer Jennifer Warnes. Besides his solo career remained Gold work with other artists. He was among other things featured on songs by Art Garfunkel, Céline Dion, 10cc,James Taylor, Jackson Browne, Don Henley, Cher and Diana Ross, Paul McCartney and toured together with the Eagles.
In 1981, Gold by Graham Gouldman and Eric Stewart invited to become part of 10cc. By business commitments he could not go into here. From 1983 he formed a new band together with Gouldman. Under the namesWorld in Action and Common Knowledge this cooperation still had little success, but if Wax Gouldman and Gold in 1986 scored hits with Right Between the Eyes and Bridge to Your Heart. Wax stopped in 1989 to exist.
From 1990 was active as a member of the band Bryndle Gold again. He had a private record label and collaborated on the album ...Meanwhile by 10cc. under the pseudonym of the fictional group The Fraternal Order Of The All Gold in 1996 brought the album Greetings from Planet Love from; a kind of homage to groups like The Beatles, The Byrds and The Beach Boys. Gold contributed to various soundtracks of films and television series and wrote music for commercials. He sang The Final Frontier, the by Paul Reiser and Don Was written title song from the television series Mad About You .
Andrew Gold is the son of composer Ernest Gold (winner of an Oscar for the music of the film Exodus) and singer Marni Nixon (the singing voice of Natalie Wood in West Side Story, by Deborah Kerr in The King and Iand that of Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady).
Andrew Gold died in 2011 from cardiac arrest at the age of 59.
