Band Aid was a British charitable group that was founded in 1984 by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure in order to raise money to fight the famine in Ethiopia . The name Band Aid had a double meaning: a band of musicians who offers help for an emergency situation, but at the same time also the perspective that this project not more than a band-aid on a major wound was.
On november 28, 1984 was the single Do they know it's Christmas released, written by Bob Geldof and produced by Midge Ure. The song, which was recorded in one day,25 november , reached in many countries, including Britain and the Netherlands, first place. The cover of the single was created by Peter Blake.
Bob Geldof organized 1985 Live Aidbenefit concert. Formed In imitation of American Band Aid star that same year the group USA for Africa.
In 1989 a group of artists with the project Band Aid II, had broken out again after famine in Ethiopia. Band Aid II Do they know it's Christmas again took on. the plate did it in Netherlands less good (highest place number 18 in the Dutch Top 40) than 5 years before that.
A third version appeared In 2004 under the name Band Aid 20, referring to the 20 years that Do they know it's Christmas? is. The record was 14 november and 29 november appeared in stores. The proceeds go to Sudan. England donates even the tax that is levied on the CDs to the country.
The data of the Foundation are accessible through the website of the British Charity Commission. This shows that, for example, in 2011 nearly 4 million English pounds was paid out to projects. [1]
