Song Notes: The Boys And Girls Are Lifting Up Their Plates: This is from the Dresden Dolls' first album/compilation A Is For Accident, a collection of studio demos and live tracks, released initially by Important Records, and then reissued by the band themselves, minus one track (a not-very-well-recorded cover of "Stand By Your Man"; believe me, you're not missing much) with brand new artwork. The compilation was a teaser for the first studio self-titled album, and featured, split by not-quite half-and-half earlier versions of songs on that album and wholly different songs. This is my favorite of the unreleased tracks (and maybe even of the released tracks). I was surprised that it didn't make it to the album; hopefully, the next album! (Although, I don't recall them playing this one when I saw them live, so maybe it's cycled its way out of their repertoire...) Anyway, it's a great song, full of not-quite-dirty lyrics split across lines ("got badges up the/ask me anything...") -- though, there are plenty of uses of other favorite swears, as the Dolls never shy away from a well-placed expletive (viz.
