Belinda Jo Carlisle (Hollywood (California), 17 August 1958) is an American singer. She is known as Belinda Carlisle as a singer and founder of the group The Go-Go's. After leaving it in 1984, she was known as a solo singer.

1978-1985: The Go-Go's[Edit][]

In april 1977 added Carlisle under the name Dottie Danger to the band The Germs as a drummer. Because she suffered from the glandular fever she was never present at live shows. In 1978 together with Jane Wiedlin is Carlisle founded the band Misfits on the vocals here, Wiedlin is provided. Carlisle guitar and vocals, Charlotte Caffey -lead guitar and keyboards, bass guitar and Margot Olaverra Elissa Bello stood behind the drums. Soon they changed their name to The Go-Go's and started with gigs at parties and in small clubs in California. In the early 1980s, it became one of the most successful American bands in the new wave genre. It was the first girls rock band in American history who played instruments themselves with self written songs and an album that reached the first place in the charts. Their debut album Beauty and the Beat was a great success. Their next two albums also sold well, but could the success of Beauty and the Beat do not match. Wiedlin is end of may had left the band the Go-Go's went in May 1985 and from each other. In 2011, the Go-Go's a star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame.

1984-1993: Solo[Edit][]

After the break-up of the Go-Go's Carlisle solo went further. They auditioned for a role in the 1986 film Howard the Duck , but she was not selected. Where she was still a wild rocker with her band, the edginess quickly disappeared during her solo career. In 1986 she released her first album, entitled Belinda. The summer hit Mad About You obtained a third place on the charts. The album went gold and put Carlisle in the spotlight In this period she sang the opening song In My Wildest Dreams for the movie Mannequin and Burglar for the film the song Dancing in the City.

In 1987 the album Heaven on Earth Carlisle brought out. The album itself peaked at the thirteenth place in the Billboard Album Top 200 and also the singles did well. Heaven Is a Place on Earth was a worldwide hit and Carlisles first No. 1 hit. The music video for the single was, as well as the music video for I Get Weak, directed by actress Diane KeatonI Get Weak got stuck on number 2 and the ballad Circle in the Sand at no. 5. World Without You was also a hit in Europe.

In 1989, Carlisle third album Runaway Horses and was again successful with the hit singles Leave a Light on and Summer Rain. However, the sales were a lot less than her previous album. Summer Rain reached the sixth place in Australia. The song was covered in 2004 by the Australian group Slinkee Minx.

1991-present: declining success[Edit][]

The fourth album of Carlisle Live Your Life Be Free was not a great success. Sales fell and the album was not on the charts. Only the single Do You Feel Like I Feel? became a minor hit. Also the album no RealCarlisles could breathe new life into career and they joined the reunion of The Go-Go 's. There was a compilation album with three new hits, Return to the Valley of the Go-Go's and the band went on tour to promote the album. Despite the great success the Go-Go's went after the promotional tour apart. Because of the earthquake in Los Angeles, were on 17 January 1994, Carlisle and her family moved to France in the meantime.

Carlisle in 1996 took a solo album, entitled A Womand & a Man. In England the song In Too Deep gave Carlisle a top ten hit again after ten years. In addition brought the album in England still 3 hits. In the United States, however, this album was also unsuccessful. What followed was a series of collection and compilation albums and a new reunion with the Go-Go 's. Since the end of the 90 's make the Go-Go's each summer a tour.

In 2007 came from the album Voila . This album contained covers of French pop songs and was entirely sung in French.

Private Life[Edit][]

Carlisle is named for the favorite movie of her mother, Johnny Belinda from 1948. After her mother remarried was Belinda known as Belinda Jo Kurcezski.

Carlisle was educated at the Newbury Park High School in Thousand Oaks, California. Here she was also cheerleader.

After a life full of sex, drugs and rock and roll, Carlisle did it after her period with the Go-Go's to slow. She met Morgan Mason, son of the British actor James Mason, and they were married on april 12, 1986. Mason appeared in the video clips of Mad About You and Heaven Is a Place on Earth. On 27 april 1992 the couple got a son.

In the 1990s, Carlisle and her family moved to Cap d'Antibes in southern France.

Carlisle Christian is brought up from home. For herself, she has never felt a connection with Christianity. At one point she is a number of books of the fourteenth dalai lama go read. This makes them slowly come toBuddhism , where they found that connection.

In 2001 posed a 43-year-old Carlisle nude in Playboy.
