History[Edit][]
The history of Boston began around 1969 when Donald Thomas "Tom" Scholz became a member of a band founded by Barry Goudreau (guitar) and further consisting ofBrad Delp (vocals) and Jim Masdea (drums). This band, known as "mother's Milk" Although there is no official name, was the beginning of Boston.
After the band disbanded, made Scholz a number of shots in his home studio. In the beginning he was mainly engineer and played keyboards. The first demo tapes were unsuccessful at record companies. The second set of tapes, with Scholz on guitar, attracted the attention of Epic Records. Because society wanted to see the band, bassist Fran Sheehan was attracted. At the suggestion of the record company was drummer Masdea replaced. Sib Hashian was adopted for the recording of the debut album in 1975 and 1976. The album was a great success and marked a revival of rock music at a time when punk and disco were popular. There followed a world tour to promote the album.
Tensions between the record company started to arise and Scholz. The company wanted a follow-up album to quickly as soon as possible to make a profit. Scholz, known as perfectionist, wanted to produce an album in no hurry. The follow-up album Don't look back two years after the debut album would eventually appear. At that time, quite a long period, but Scholz found it a rush job, especially the B-side of the album was not good in his eyes. The sale also fell against, in number about half of the debut album.
The relationship between Scholz and the record company began to be more difficult and as a result, the relationship with the other band members also went backwards. While Scholz began the preparations for a third album, Barry Goudreau began on his first solo album. Singer Delp and Hashian drummer participated on the album, as well as singer Fran Cosmo. Guest musicians were only with their first names mentioned on the album. As a result, the bassist of Boston Scholz thought that with Fran was meant and he suspected the record company and create a second Boston Goudreau. Scholz indicated he no longer wanted to cooperate with them, except singer Delp.
There followed lawsuits, which the new album did slow down even more. This was recorded in the same way as the first demo tapes, in the home studio of Scholz. The song Amanda leaked out in 1980 and was well received by fans. When the third album with the title in the end Third Stage came out in 1986, Amanda was released as a single. The album was released by MCA Records which had taken over the contract of Boston by Epic. The theme of the album was middle age (the third stage-third stage-alive).
Boston played In 1988 at a charity concert for aids patients. After that Boston connect more often to charities.
It would be another long time, eight years this time, last for a follow-up album. Walk on was the first album without singer Delp, who had other commitments at the new band of Barry Goudreau, RTZ. Ironically had Scholz chosen singer Fran Cosmo. Sales fell against. After eight years, in 2002, came from Corporate America . Both Delp and Cosmo acted as singer. In 1997, a compilation album with some new songs.
Brad Delp died on 9 March 2007 at the age of 55.
