Chrissie Hynde (Akron (Ohio)7 september 1951) is an American singer, best known for the rock group The Pretenders. She is also next to singer songwriter andguitarist.

They made his name with The Pretenders in England, together with the English musicians James Honeyman-Scottand Pete Farndon , Martin Chambers. The composition of the band changed regularly, but Hynde was the constant factor and thus became the leader of the band. She plays especially on a Fender Telecaster.

Hynde is an influential musician both by her music as by her performances and her in interviews. Chrissie Hynde scored in 1985 along with UB40 a number 1hit in the Netherlands with the song, among other things, I Got You Babe. This was originally a hit by Sonny & CherBreakfast in bedwas In 1988, again with UB40, in fourth place in the Top 40.

The Pretenders had one of their first hits and a cover of the song "Stop Your Sobbing", written by Ray Davies of The Kinks. Hynde met Davies several years after that, an encounter that resulted in a long-term relationship and in 1983 they got a child. After that Hynde of 1984 to 1990 married to Jim Kerr of Simple Minds, with whom she had a daughter. Since 1997 she was married to the artist in 2002 of Lucha Brieva where she is separated. Hynde has a house in London and an apartment in her hometown of Akron Ohio. They also had a vegetarian restaurant, which in 2011 is closed.

She is also a famous supporter of animal rights.
