Foster The People is an American alternative rock band made up of members Mark Foster, Cubbie Fink and Mark Pontius. Their debut album Torches was released in 2011 and they have gained critical acclaim for their song Pumped Up Kicks.

History[]

After graduating from high school in Cleveland, Ohio, Mark Foster went to live with his uncle in Los Angeles to pursue his music career (which his father supported). For many years he found himself overwhelmed by Los Angeles and having problems with drugs. However by the time he was twenty-two, he got serious about music but various attempts did not work out for him. It wasn't until 2009 that he teamed up with what would later become the members of Foster The People. By 2011, the band had gained critical acclaim and a Grammy nomination for their album, Torches.
