Janette (Jeanette) Dimech (London (United Kingdom), 10 October 1951) is a British-American singer of Spanish-Congolese origin. From her twelfth, she grew up inSpain ; She sings primarily in Spanish.


Jeanette is the daughter of a Congolese father and a Spanish mother; her mother is originally from the Canary Islands.

Because of the occupation of her family (a import-and export company), she lived first with her parents in London, and later in Chicago and Los Angeles. When she was 12 her parents ' marriage ended in divorce and she went to live in Barcelona with her mother and her two younger brothers.

In the 1960s she learned to play guitar and writing her own songs she went. In 1969 she went to a band, with which she had success with songs like Cállate niña, and No digas nada Amenecer . The band, however, remained not long exist and Jeanette and her husband moved to Vienna. From that city, she began her solo career and they soon broke through.

Porque te vas[Edit]Edit

Her biggest hit, Porque te vas (' because you are going '), is a song by José Luís Perales, that smoking remained unknown until early 1974. Only when it was used for the film Cría cuervos (literally: Raven breeding orBreeding raven) by Carlos Saura, which prizes dragged on the Cannes film festival, it became internationally known. It reached the first place of the German hit parade (see Musikmarkt Top 50 number-one hits in 1977).

This success has Jeanette no longer can match. In the 1990s, she appeared to still be on. In 1988 she released her latest record Corazón de poeta ("heart of a poet ').
