Keane is a English band consisting of Tom Chaplin (lead vocals, keyboards, guitar), Tim Rice-Oxley (piano, keyboards, bass, vocals), Richard Hughes (drums, vocals) and Jesse Quin (bass, keyboards, percussion, vocals).

Biography[Edit][]
Tom Chaplin, Tim Rice-Oxley and Richard Hughes grew all three on in Battle, in East Sussex, and went to the same College. Rice-Oxley founded in 1995 along withDominic Scott the band The Lotus Eaters on, and asked Hughes as a drummer. In 1997, Tom Chaplin to join the band, as lead singer and acoustic guitarist. With Chaplin's coming was also the name was changed to Cherry Keane. Cherry Keane was a good friend of Chaplin's mother in the time that the band members were still young. The name is a reference to the fact that the men know each other for so long and share memories together. Later the name was shortened to Keane. In the same year, Chaplin took a rest year. Shortly after his return gave the band its first live performance on 13 July 1998, in a London pub.

Lead guitarist Scott left the band In July 2001 to his studies at the London School of Economics to be able to take off. The remaining band members decided after a less year 2002 to go Act in december 2002. During one of those performances, they were noticed by Simon Williams of Fierce Pandalabel, which asked them to release a single. They chose everybody's Changing, a compelling number. In their home base, the United Kingdom, the band had already released a few singles, but without success.Everybody's Changing on the other hand, was a great success and reached the third place in the English charts. Next, the band offers from different record companies. In the summer of 2003 the band decided to sign with Island Records. In October 2003, the band released This is the Last Time out, their final single on the Fierce Pandalabel. However, In the rest of Europe Somewhere Only We Know was the first released single. Later it was also released outside the United Kingdom everybody's Changing and grew up in different countries into a top 10 hit.
In 2004 released their debut album Hopes and Fears from. In the UK created a downright hype around the "rock band without guitars". In 2005 the band won two Brit Awards: for best British newcomer and best British Album. In the same year the band performed on during the big one-day- Rockin' Parkfestival in Nijmegen.
Keane brought on 9 June 2006 their second album Under the Iron Sea. It was preceded by the singles " Is It Any Wonder? andAtlantic as download-only. A few days before, the band played at Pinkpop. The album was in its first week (week 24) in on the first place in the Album Top 100. On August 21, followed the single Crystal Ball and on 30 October the third physical single, "Nothing In My Way, released. This came as Alarm drive in on 39 in the Top 40. In september 2006, Keane cancelled a number of performances in America. Lead singer Tom Chaplin had problems with drink and drugs and ordered into a rehab. He left the clinic in October at the tour again to continue. With A Bad Dream, their fourth single, Keane came in april 2007 in the Top forty.
On 29 October 2007 the single was released The Night Sky . The proceeds from this single go to War Child. The song was from 22 October to download at warchildmusic.com. The single also contains a cover of the Queen/David Bowie song "Under Pressure". This single is about war, seen through the eyes of a child. It is a loose single and has nothing to do with the third album.
On 10 October 2008, the band's third album, titled "Perfect Symmetry", released. The first single from the album is called Spiralling and was on August 4, provided free of charge on the website of Keane. The single was also elected to 3FM Megahit . A week later, the single also released on cd single and preferred him to 538 tweeduizendsteAlarm disc. The second single from the album was The Lovers Are Losing. The next single, the title song from the album, released on december 29, 2008. The song Better Than This, also from the album Perfect Symmetry, came on March 16, 2009.
On August 29, 2009 was the afsluitingsact on the Hague pop festival Keane Beat city.
The Night Train ep was given a worldwide release on May 10, 2010. The album contains 8 songs, which during the Perfect Symmetry-World Tour are written and recorded. The name of the album comes from the favourite means of transport of the band during this tour. On this album features collaborations with rapper K'Naan (numbers Stop For A Minute and Looking Back) and Japanese MC «Tigarah (Ishin Denshin (you've Got To Help Yourself).
After the release of the band started with the Night Train Night Train Tour with a show in Brixton, London in The Fridge on 12 May 2010. During the concerts the Night Train-Perfect Symmetry and Jesse Quin toured along with Keane on bass. Officially he was still no band member and worked between the concerts to his own band "Jesse Quin & The Mets". However, on February 3, 2011 Keane made on its own website known officially as a fourth member to Keane that Quin has been added.
Around that time the recording of the next album, which would cover a large part of 2011. On 10 February 2012 left Keane via Twitter that the mixing of the new album is completed. On 27 February, the release of the album announced via the official website. The album is called Strangeland and has appeared on 4 May. The regular album has twelve tracks. The hits ' Silenced by the Night ' and ' Sovereign Light Café ' of this album were well received by Netherlands. In different countries, ' Silenced by the Night ' the most played song of the new album. On a Special Edition stand another four bonus tracks.
On november 11, 2013 is the album The Best Of Keane appeared with not only the biggest hits of Keane, but also their latest singles Higher Than The Sun, Won't Be Broken and a new song Russian farmer's Song. On 20 October 2013 gave Chaplin that the band would break for the time being hold for solo projects of the band members.

Keane brought in november 2005 the double-dvd from Strangers . It contains a documentary in which the history of the band is covered. Also on the dvd some live shows. The first came at the end of 2007 live concert out on dvd: Keane Live!. This concert was recorded at the O2 arena in London. The concert, and the entire tour, are exceptions for Keane in the field of stage decoration. So used large display with images on it and a small stage in the middle of the room.
There is also a special edition released of the album Under The Iron Sea, including a dvd that some music videos and a ' making of ' of the album. In 2008 there is a special edition released of the album Perfect Symmetry. This contains the cd and a dvd with clips about the production of the album.
Trivia[Edit][]
- Chris Martin was a close friend of Tim Rice-Oxley. When Keane decided not to use the name "Coldplay", Chris Martin asked if he was allowed to use this name for his band.
- The second single, "Wolf at the Door", were only 50 copies produced on unlabeled cd-RS. One of these copies resulted in more than £ 1000 on on eBay.
- Tom Chaplin likes to make movies; occasionally pops up on the website of Keane a video created by Tom.
- The keyboardist and writer of the band, Tim Rice-Oxley, also has numbers for among other things Gwen Stefani (No Doubt) and Nicole Scherzinger (The Pussycat Dolls) written. The song Early Winter ' that he has written for Gwen Stefani was released on single.
- Drummer Richard Hughes keeps a lot of footballs. In the booklet of Hopes and Fears (2004) is Richard Hughes with a football on a photo.
- In the years 2000-2009, lead singer Tom Chaplin released that he, before Keane broke through, worked in a nursing home. Tom change diapers of babies.
- Before his career with Keane Tim Rice-Oxley was invited by Coldplay to serve them as a band member for. However, he saw this not be.
- Drummer Richard Hughes is color blind.
