Young years[Edit]

She was as Elisabeth Dorothea (Elly) Denny born in BandoengDutch East Indies during the Second World War. She spent the first years of her life in a Japanese POW camp. After her mother had committed suicide a short time later, she came after the war with her father to Netherlands. Because her stepmother her not accepted her, left her father and stepmother at the age of seven behind after a holiday on Vlieland in the vuurtorenwachters family List, that adoptedher. She has had a happy time In this family. [1]

As a child loved Liesbeth List already involved with music, in addition to literature and art. At the age of 18, she moved to Amsterdam, took singing lessons and immersed himself in the French chansons.

In 1962 she performed for the first time on TV shows, including a TV show of Rob de Nijs. Here she learned, thanks to Henk van der MeydenRamses Shaffy , with whom they would pull up musical for years. From 1965 to 1979 , she had a relationship with writer Cees Nooteboom. Shortly thereafter, she married Robert Ballard, with whom she has a daughter, the singer Jeanette Balmer (1982). Robert Ballard died in april 2014 on 64-year-old age. [2]

The highlight in her career reached List end sixties, early seventies. The duet Pastorale with Shaffy was a big hit and also with her versions of songs by Jacques Brel they garnered success. In the following years she released several albums and singles. She received an Edison Golden Harp (1971) and a (1998).

USA trip[Edit]

In 1972 she took along with Rod McKuen on an English double album, entitled Two Against The Morning. List two albums later in the United States brought out via McKuens Stanyan Records, Solitude's my name respectively (with a number of her songs of McKuen) and List sings Jacques Brel (with the same numbers as on the European version). In the early 1970s she worked once more together with McKuen; they brought an A-face single from Baby it's cold outside with the number.
