After a classical voice training in her childhood she does in 1971 audition with record company Phonogram. Under the direction of producer Hans van Hemert (Luv ', Kamahl, etc.) she takes in the same year her first single "I heard it through the grapevine" on (under the name Maggie Macneil, a Scottish corruption of Van 't Spijker).The single is no hit, but he is the beginning of a long, successful career in music.
In the summer of 1971 is Van 't Spijker linked to singer big mouth and thus the duo Mouth & MacNeal launched (Ventura has chosen a slightly different spelling of last name for Maggies). Their first single Hey you love is touch and reached the 3rd place in the Towering Thirty. In the period 1972-1974 they score a few large national and international hits. The small, innocent girl and the big guy with the big mouth (' Big Mouth ') sequentially with the duo to save scores and How do you do and Hello-A two number-one hits in Netherlands. In 1975 MacNeal, along with her husband Frans Smit, a band: the Maggie MacNeal Band. After the single "Nothing else to do" is "When you're gone" was released and the song achieved the third place in the Top 40 and the fourth place in the National Charts. In Brazil it becomes a number one hit and is the single gold. Their self-titled debut is crowned with gold plate. In 1976 reached the single "back to the coast", drawn by the book week-lp "sing your mother tongue" in which Dutch artists also execute a Dutch poem on own melodies, the top 10.

In 1979 the United States goes to an attempt to MacNeal to do in to hooks on the disco craze with a typical American disco plate. With producer Michael Lloyd she takes the lp "Nighttime" on, however without success. The disco single retrieves the 48th place of the national hit parade.
In 1980 with the Song Contest, for which MacNeal does she is designated and which this year so no pre-selection is. With the typical Eurovision Song "Amsterdam" extracts them fifth place. Despite this success (there is even a French, a German and an English version included) comes in the National hit parade does not go beyond the 39th place. Hits stay away from then also out for many, already brings them out on MacNeal single ("Why your lady says goodbye", "Together", "Be my friend", "Be my lover tonight", "I've got you, you've got me"). In 1983 , she once again just in the picture when they once again a film title, this time a vocalist yet for the Dutch feature film "murder in ecstasy": "Still can't believe it".

In 1989 comes MacNeal back with a Dutch-speaking project: the album fun for later. This album contains little commercial success. Starting from 2000 makes MacNeal part of girl group the Dutch Divas, which initially consisted of MacNeal, Marga Bult and Sandra Reemer, with which an album was recorded and singles were released. Reemer disappears and is replaced by Justine Pelmelay. Also in this composition is one EP. Also leave the Group decide if Pelmelay MacNeal and Bump to continue as a duo. MacNeal is thirty-three years married to musician Frans Smit, from whom she has her daughter, in June 2005 if this dies. In February 2009 she married again with her friend Klaus Metternich.  In 2012 appeared the book ' Mouth & MacNeal, duo willy-nilly ', written by Roel Smit and touring them along with Cramer in the theatre programme Jukebox on Tour.
