Midnight Cowboy:Martin Denny

Artist: Martin Denny

Album: Exotic Moog / Best Of Moog

Appears On (Mixes): Past The Barber and Gymnasium

Song Notes: The late Martin Denny was most known for his exotica records with a Tiki flair, but he also did some work with moogs, including the album Exotic Moog, which this appears on (it was also the flip side to a 45 with "Quiet Village" from the same record). This is a cover of John Barry's theme from the film of the same name; unfortunately, Denny's Exotic Moog album is very rare (though Dale has a copy, and it's pretty good), this track is available on the Best Of Moog compilation put out by Disinformation, and it's definitely worth picking up (I almost also included "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" by Gil Trythall, originally by Earl Scruggs, the banjo virtuoso); it's one of those really great compilations by someone who obviously loves the stuff; my only complaint is that there could be more liner notes on the CD, but then again, I'm kind of spoiled by the type of liners that Dr. Demento writes for his compilations. So much great information in those; it's no wonder he's been nominated for Grammies for best liner notes. This is also the second song on here to have "Midnight" as the first word of its title. - Rev. Syung Myung Me
