If you somehow overlooked 2005’s Multiply from British experimental electronica artist turned Berlin soul-crooning scenester, Jamie Lidell (a given for year end top 10 lists everywhere), than here is the chance to redeem yourself. Since its already been a year since Multiply was initially released, it would be nice to see some new material, but this is the next best thing, 10 songs of remixes, restructures, live recordings and an absolute ridiculous cover. Lidell shows off his Otis Redding meets Al Green vocal chords on two live tracks, both featuring live instrumentation, from his year of non-stop touring. The title track is stripped down and the first single, When I Come Back Around, is reworked for freshness; remixes are contributed by noise-manipulator Four Tet, WARP’s Luke Vibert, Herbert and a pseudo-hip-hop mix by Mocky. Herbert also includes a well-done instrumental mix of Multiply. The most fascinating track is by far comes from Plaid contributor Mara Carlyle, who strips down Game for Fools to just her deep soul voice and a ukulele, which is amazing to say the least. Another definite winner for Lidell and a good time killer until his next album drops. Mpardaiolo
