Nearer, My God, to Thee is a English Christian hymn, which is known because it was the last piece of music, that by the musicians of the Titanic would be played. The anthem is based on the story of Jacob's ladder from the Bible (Gen 28: 11-12).

The text was written by the British actress and poet Sarah Fuller Flower Adams in 1841. There are 2 English translations: my God with you Further andcloser to you, o Lord. The hymn was played by the military chapels during the funeral procession of Prince Bernhard. The hymn was also performed during the funeral of the former American president Gerald Ford.
