History[Edit][]
The band was founded in 1984 when two members of the then just disbanded Australian band The Birthday Party, Nick Cave and Mick Harvey, Blixa Bargeld 's got company from Einstürzende Neubauten (guitar),Hugo Race (guitar) and Barry Adamson from Magazine (bass, piano). In this composition they recorded their debut album, From Her To Eternity on. during their first Australian tour also played bass player Tracy Pewof The Birthday Party .
Since then, the occupation changed regularly. After leaving the band by Harvey in January 2009, is Cave the only constant in the group. The good son from 1990 shows a new course: hear the maniacal is a piece off, there are more ' songs ' on and Nick is emerging more and more like a crooner, without losing sight of the inspiration.
The band coasted commercially released Murder Ballads from 1996. As the title suggests, this is an album of songs about murder. The single " Where the Wild Roses Grow (a duet of Cave with Kylie Minogue) became a worldwide hit. On the album also worked with Anita Lane, the ex-girlfriend of Cave.
The next album The Boatman's Call from 1997 is also a great artistic and commercial success (to Cave's standards). Many songs on this album are dedicated to his broken relationship with PJ Harvey.
In March 2008 the newest album: Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!. To promote this new album Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds gave a concert in the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam. Like the previous album scale slaughter house Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus is also this cd produced by Nick Launay.
The band has over the years built up a fanatical following, especially in Europe and Australia.
Nick Cave refers in his lyrics sometimes to the wanderings of Odysseus.
