Philip Parris Lynott (West Bromwich (England), 20 August 1949 - Salisbury (Wiltshire), 4 January 1986) was a musician, singer, lyricist, composer and first known as founder/frontman of Irish rock band Thin Lizzy.

Biography[Edit][]

Lynott was the son of an Afro-Guyanese father and an Irish mother and was born in West Bromwich. He grew up with his grandmother in Dublin. Lynott began in the mid 1960s and early seventies playing in bands he founded Thin Lizzy on. With that band in 1973 he scored a big hit with the traditional "Whiskey In The Jar".

Outside of his work with Thin Lizzy was Lynott also involved with other musical projects. As he did with the "War Of The Worlds" album by Jeff Wayne and in 1979 took a Christmas single, "A Merry Jingle" on under the band name The Greedies, along with some Thin Lizzy band members and Steve Jones and Paul Cook of the Sex Pistols. In 1980, he released his first solo album: "Solo In Soho". Phil Lynott appears "The Album" In 1982 with the hit "Old Town".

In 1983, Thin Lizzy apart and the last years of Lynott's life are characterized by drug problems. In 1985 he and his old band size scored Gary Moore another hit with "Out In The Fields". He also tried to get a record deal with his new band Grand Slam. On 25 december 1985 he was with severe physical symptoms included in a clinic where he died on 4 January 1986, aged 36. In a recent interview tells Thin Lizzy guitarist John Sykes that stopping Thin Lizzy an idea was from the record company. It was supposed to be after a few years the (commercial) thread to resume. Phil Lynott could handle bad here and Sykes claims that this is the main reason is that the "revival" has not met Phil Lynott.

Philip Parris Lynott is buried in the Saint Fintan's Cemetery, Sutton, County Dublin, Ireland; Plot 13 or the St. Polan's Section.

In 2005, a statue of Lynott was unveiled in Dublin, with the Thin Lizzy members past and present. After the statue of Lynott Gary Moore gave was unveiled one more farewell concert with the Thin Lizzy members Scott GorhamBrian RobertsonEric Bell and drummer Brian Downey. They played among other things the Thin Lizzy songs: Emerald, Still In Love With You, Cowboy Song, Jailbreak, The Boys Are Back In Town and the classics Whiskey In The Jar and Parisienne Walkways. Gary still gave an encore after the concert "Happy Birthday" on his guitar. The concert is also made a dvd "One Night In Dublin: A Tribute To Phil Lynott".
