Biography[Edit][]
Steve Miller was heavily influenced in his youth by blues musicians who performed regularly with his parents at home. When he was 15 years old he formed his first band in Dallas and he accompanied Jimmy Reed. He was then still at school and asked his best friend Boz Scaggs to sing. In 1964 he decided to depart to Chicago where the blues experienced a revival thanks to British bands like the Rolling Stones and The Animals. The blues scene was dominated by artists from the record label Chess Records as Little Walter , Howlin' Wolfand Willie Dixon. Later in his career would Steve Miller one of the most famous rock and roll artists of this label, Chuck Berry, guide. He was under the spell of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band with keyboard player and Barry Goldberg founded the Goldberg-Miller Blues Band on. They accompanied The Supremes and The Four Tops in New York, were the house band of the Phone Booth, a Theatre on Broadway where the The Young Rascals were just resigned. When he returned at the end of 1965 in Chicago was the blues scene disappeared and the then popular bars were closed by the police. After a short time he decided to pack hisVW-bus to and from San Francisco to leave. There he met the Butterfields Paul Blues Band and Jefferson Airplane. He played a few evenings along with Paul Butterfield, and reported at one of those sessions to remain permanently in San Francisco.
The Steve Miller Band was founded in January 1967. The first album, Children of the future, was based on the psychedelic blues style that was in vogue at that time in San Francisco. Singer Scaggs would post some albums left the band, followed by drummer Tim Davis initially accounted for the vocals. On some songs sang Steve Miller itself. The albums were selling well, but a music video was not. A special lp was "Recall the beginning, a journey form Eden" where Miller already accounted for the vocals themselves. In that time he spent on the VPRO-radio performed the legendary acoustic sessions, where he gradually drank so much that no one could still follow.
Miller came In 1973 with the album The Joker, the break-through to a large audience. The music was more accessible. In addition to the title track, there are still some hits from this album. The album The Joker was succeeded by Fly like an Eagle in 1976 and Book of Dreams in 1977, which were taken up at the same time, but with an interval of 1 year are released. Both albums are considered the top of Miller's commercial career and album reached high positions in different lists. Along with the Steve Miller Band undertook The Eagles a stadium tour in 1977. Both albums were released on single multiple numbers all of which came in the charts including Fly like an Eagle, Swing Town, Jungle Love, Rock 'n me and Jet Airliner.
Steve Miller took a few years of rest to recover from the successes, recording and touring. Miller came back In 1981 with the album Circle of Love that not so good sold. In 1982 he obtained another super hit, with the number of the homonymous album Abracadabra . With subsequent plates as Living in the 20th century (1986), Born to B blue(1990) and Wide River (1993) knew the band not to continue this success. In Netherlands, the band had another big hit in 1990 with The Joker, that that year was released again after being used in a commercial for Levi's.
