The Guess Who is a Canadian rock band. The festival Le Guess Who? is named to them.

The history of The Guess Who goes back to 1958, when Chad Allan (vocals) in Winnipeg founded his band Al and the Silvertones. This band changed its name later in Chad Allan and the Reflections and afterwards in The Expressions. They consisted of Allan from Randy Bachman (guitar), Jim Kale (bass guitar) and Garry Peterson (drums). In England they reaped success with the single His Girl, after which they signed at Mills Music and King Records. With Bob Ashley as pianist in 1965 was the single released Shakin' All Over (a new version of a song by Johnny Kidd and the Pirates (1960)). As a publicity stunt was on the cover only question "Guess Who?"instead of a band name. At the time British rock and roll bands were very popular and the record label was hoping that the public would think that the band came from England, so that they could benefit from the British invasion. After in december 1965 (vocals, piano) Burton Cummings joined the group added and Allan left the band in May 1966, and Ashley became The Guess Who as permanent band name chosen.
Shakin' All Over the single marked their international breakthrough and from 1965 to 1968 the band had several hits in Canada including Tossin' and turnin' and Hey Ho What You Do to Me. In 1969 it became by Bachman and Cummings written These Eyes as eighteenth single from The Guess Who, of which one million copies were sold.This single reached the top ten in the US charts and polite almost thirty years later a second youth as a hip-hop sample.
1970 a peak year in their existence: they scored several number one hits: No Time, American Woman, No Sugar Tonight and Share the Land. In 1974 their last great success Clap For The Wolfman, dedicated to disc jockey Wolfman Jack. Bachman, Mormon, convinced left after quarrels with Cummings and would be very successful with Bachman-Turner Overdrive. In the same year 1974 they scored their world hit You ain't see nothing yet .
In the years 80, 90 and 00 there were various reunion concerts of the "American Woman"-occupation; Bachman and Cummings have tried in vain to the rights of the group name and act now as the Bachman-Cummings Band.
