The Knife is a electronic duo from Sweden, formed in 1999. The duo consists of sister Karin Dreijer Andersson and Olof Dreijer brother. They also have a private record label called Rabid Records. Karin had previously played in the band Honey Is Cool.

The Knife wants as little as possible with the media and the ' mainstream'-music to do. The duo is almost not in public and that's why they have at photo shoots also usually wear the masks the duo wear can you compare the masks that are used in the film Eyes Wide Shut. Also does the duo rarely performances. Olof is called on as a dj under the name DJ Coolof.

The Knife won a Grammy in 2003 for best pop group. They boycotted the ceremony by two members of the Guerrilla Girls to get the price on let in gorilla suits with the number 50 written on it. This did The Knife to protest against male dominance in the music industry. Their album Deep Cuts was also nominated for a Grammy, but won this not. In 2003 The Knife also was the artist of the Week on the website HitQuarters.

The Knife got more fame because their song ' Heartbeats ' by the end of 2005, in a cover version by José González for his 2003 album Veneer was used by Sony in its Color Like No Other advertising for Bravialcd TVs. In 2006, it was released as a single. The Knife responded in a Dagens Nyheter article, and told that Sony had paid a large sum of money to use in advertising the number. Given the left-wing ideology and the non-commercial philosophy of the duo, they offered their apologies to, but stated that they used the money to establish their record label.

The Knife had never played live for the first time in 2006, and went on tour and because different shows were sold out worldwide, a dvd made. The dvd, titled Silent Shout: An Audio Visual Experience came on 8 november 2006 in Sweden.

At the Grammis (the Swedish version of the Grammy's) in January 2007, The Knife won all six categories in which they were nominated: Composer of the year, music dvd of the year, producer of the year, pop group of the year, album of the year and artist of the year. Nevertheless, they were not present at the awards ceremony, said by various circumstances.

Karin sang along with the song Slow of the Belgian rock band dEUS and with the song "What Else Is There" by Röyksopp the Norwegian electroduo.

In december 2012 The Knife to announced on their website that a new album comes out in april 2013 entitled Shaking the Habitual. The first single from that album, "Full of Fire", was released in January. The band announced then also a dozen shows in Europe. By the end of the tour in August 2014 gave the band after the tour stop. [1]
