The Sun Goes Down And The World Goes Dancing:The Magnetic Fields

Artist: The Magnetic Fields

Album: 69 Love Songs

Appears On (Mixes): Pray For My TV Show

Song Notes: I'm glad the box set of 69 Love Songs has come back into print, as the liner note book is really interesting, and Stephin Merritt and Daniel Handler both mention On The Air, David Lynch's short-lived TV series on ABC that was absolutely hilarious (though quite a departure from Twin Peaks, which might be why it didn't do well, airing for all of 3 episodes (out of 8 made!) -- I just hope it makes it out on DVD soon. I've got a couple bootleg videotapes, though. Including one from the Japanese tape with Japanese Subtitles which actually ends up kinda adding to the surreality of the series.) Anyway, though—this is from that set, and it's one of Stephin Merritt's really, really pretty songs. (Another one that I absolutely adore is "Busby Berkeley Dreams", which is just absolutely gorgeous.) I think, due to the concept, there's a bit of bloating and filler on 69 Love Songs, but there's a lot of really outstanding gems too, and this is one of them. - Rev. Syung Myung Me
