Vanilla Ice (real name Robert Matthew Van Winkle (born October 31 , 1967) is an American rapper who scored one big hit in the early 1990s with Ice Ice Baby. He is partly of Dutch origin.
The single Ice Ice Baby reached in many countries, including the Netherlands, number 1 position. In the song is (initially without permission) used a sample of the song "Under Pressure" by Queen and David Bowie. Vanilla Ice fell as one of the first white rappers huge on. Vanilla Ice the story he told was Initially raised in a rugged disadvantaged neighborhood filled with violence and crime. It turned out this story entirely concocted to to raise the sales figures.
After his successful debut single came "Play that funky music" still in the charts, but then it became quiet around Vanilla Ice. a film of his hand was both artistically and commercially a flop. In 1992 he posed half-naked Sex in the book by singer Madonna. In 1994 and 1998 brought Vanilla Ice album, but both albums not sold well. Also an album from 2001 was not a success.
In 2004 plays Vanilla Ice in the second season of The Surreal Life on the American television network The WB.
