WFMU is one of the most known radio stations out there, and is often mentioned in the same breath as stations like KEXP in "best radio stations ever". A freeform station out of New Jersey, WFMU is home to many different radio shows, including one by Laura Cantrell! Many famous fans of WFMU exist, too -- They Might Be Giants are constantly doing stuff with them, the Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players have been on often, and cartoonist Chris Ware has contributed a t-shirt design, among many, many others.
Of course -- you might be asking why you should care about some New Jersey Radio Station. Well, aside from the fact that they offer streams and podcasts of their shows, they've got a KICKASS blog, which is, like the station, freeform, but tends to be mostly about music. And they post LOADS of mp3s -- a lot of them really rare, and a lot of them really awesome. They also keep all of them online, so you can browse their On The Download page for such stuff as an early version of "The Paw-Paw Negro Blowtorch" by Brian Eno or Chris Morris' brilliant Pixies parody "Motherbanger". Check it out -- you'll be glad you did (although your hard-drive might not be when it's full to capacity of awesome stuff)! - Rev. Syung Myung Me
